Planning - Biking From Pittsburgh to DC

This is the start of my trip report about riding the GAP and C and O Canal trails to DC.

I attempted the C and O Canal in 2005 but due to a pain in the back of my left knee and 90% chance of rain on my last day, I bailed out of the ride in Brunswick, MD with 55 miles to go. Some friends were planning on doing the trip this year and I started out thinking I'd bike the last day with them so I could finish. One thing lead to another and my part of the trip ended up not only matching their effoerts but extending the tour to ride from Pittshburgh rather then their planned Cumberland departure.

My plan was to drive with the family to Pittsburgh, do some things with them while they ran sag support for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday till I got to Cumberland. Once in Cumberland I was going to meet with 8 friends and ride together into DC by Saturday.

Please note that all the choices taken on this trip are mine and are not recommended as correct or proper ways to get from point a to b.

Monday: Pittsburgh to Connellsville
Tuesday: Connellsville to Meyersdale
Wendnesday: Meyersdale to Cumberland
Thursday: Cumberland to Hancock
Friday: Hancock to Harpers Ferry
Saturday: Harpers Ferry to Washington DC.
